Farmers markets in Oakland are the spot for families to socialize while their kids taste peach samples and where singles congregate to flirt over kale. There are markets almost every day across the city that provide Oaklanders with fresh, local fruit and vegetables to cook throughout the week. Oakland Urban Paths is a group of dedicated walkers, planners, historians and fundraisers with a common mission: to raise awareness of the paths and Oakland’s heritage through a variety of activities in partnership with Walk Oakland Bike Oakland (WOBO) and the City of Oakland. OUP hosts walking treks and community archive of Oakland’s paths and stairs.
Bike East Bay is a great local organization that promotes healthy, sustainable communities by making bicycling safe, fun and accessible. They recently helped put on Pedal Fest in Jack London Square, an annual event that promotes cycling in the East Bay.
The trail system in Oakland is extensive and well maintained. There are truly so many trails that you will never get bored. Link here for the East Bay and Oakland trail system. There are even night hikes offered by Chabot Space & Science Center for the whole family where you can hike and look at the constellations on a guided tour.
