The home was featured in Better Homes and Gardens, Remodeling Ideas (Fall, 1987).
Leslie and Rob Bond know more than anyone that a home becomes an integral part of one’s family. Memories of birthday cakes at the dining room table, their children playing in the yard, sitting on the deck watching the sunset over the Bay, and laughter, are etched into their home, having created the backdrop for a lovely life.
After living in their beloved Piedmont home at 221 Bonita Avenue for almost 30 years, they have decided to sell and move closer to their children and grandchildren. We recently caught up with them to reminisce about what makes a house a home, and to provide the next generation with a little background on this classic Piedmont property.
The two-story home was first built in 1936, but has since been updated and remodeled by the Bonds into a light filled home with 3 bedrooms and 2 ½ bathrooms in the heart of Piedmont. When the Bonds moved into the home in 1982, initially it was slated to be one of Rob’s remodeling projects. At that time, Rob had already successfully remodeled three other homes. However, they soon fell in love with it and were determined to create 221 Bonita into their dream home for their family. Rob devoted himself for an entire year to remodel and rebuild the perfect house. He entrusted Herb Kosovitz with the architectural plans and Rob himself was lead contractor. The remodel was so successful that it was featured in Better Homes and Gardens, Remodeling Ideas in fall of 1987. See below for the magazine's feature, alongside images of the current updates which have freshened up the initial remodel.
There is an outdoor deck on the second floor off the loft bedroom that provides additional sweeping views of the Bay. The deck on the main floor that overlooks the back garden is the scene-stealer, however. Rob built a large staircase leading from the deck to the level lawn area and garden. The garden is so expansive that the staircase is meant to function as bleachers to watch various family games on the lawn.
