Myers was born and raised in Oakland, CA. He graduated from Bishop O’Dowd High School, and then attended Saint Mary’s College on an Athletic Scholarship where he lettered in Football and made the Dean’s list every year before graduating with a BA in History. Myers then excelled in a career in the Sales Technology field in San Francisco and Silicon Valley. After 16 years, when his son was first born, he was inspired to change career paths and return to his roots.
Myers remembers traveling around with his father in the East Bay, assisting him with his rental property as a child. “I always saw the benefits of owning a rental property from when I visited them with my father. My father would often go to his rental property to improve it or to collect rent.” His memory of spending time with his father as a young child spurned Myers to pursue something similar, as he was about to become a father himself. Myers knew that his entrepreneurial spirit and success in sales would lend themselves to the real estate industry. He aspired to have a successful career that would also allow for time to spend with his son.
In 2004 Myers joined then Prudential Mason-McDuffie Real Estate in Montclair. Ten years later, he is still at the same desk. “I am surrounded by a talented team of people who have become like family to me.” Myers partially attributes his success to being on a team. “Fortune 500 companies that I worked for lacked any sense of togetherness or team mentality, whereas Highland Partners has always helped me grow. When Highland Partners combined forces with Better Homes & Gardens Mason-McDuffie, they raised the bar a notch which ultimately increased my business. Adam, Heidi, Debbi, and Mindy have cultivated our team and encouraged a healthy level of competition. When you have a team where the Partners are also top producers, it drives us all to stay at their level of success.”
In addition to being a team player, Myers has an individual drive and passion like no other. Myers continues to be a top producing agent year after year, and has won numerous awards, including the Better Homes & Gardens Gold and Platinum Awards, and aspires to win their Emerald Elite Award. His competitive nature comes from his many years as a top, collegiate athlete. “My son always asks me, ‘why do you get up so early to put the signs out on Sunday Daddy?’ I get my drive from my many years of being an athlete. My desire for success derives from my experience as an athlete and the idea of friendly competition. I am out the earliest and place my signs out for the open house before anyone else.”
Although Myers stays busy being a father to his son and a top producer, he also donates his time and volunteers during Highland Partners’ annual Day of Giving, and donates monetarily to the Junior Giants and the Americans Cancer Society. Prior to being a busy single father, Myers was very active volunteering with San Francisco’s Huckleberry House.
Reflecting on his many years of success, Myers acknowledges that he is back in the city where he first started. He enjoys living in his favorite area of the East Bay—the Crocker Highlands community of Oakland. He loves the people, the walkability of the neighborhood along with proximity to the lake, and its beautiful homes. When he is not with his son enjoying Crocker Highlands, he is out scouring the East Bay for potential homes to refurbish.
